Electric Vehicles Need Routine Maintenance

Electric vehicles have less parts, so they require less maintenance. However it is still important to keep up with routine maintenance for electric vehicles. Your local Milex Complete Auto Care is here to help with all of your electric vehicle maintenance needs to help keep your vehicle Road Ready.

Tires. Every vehicle’s tires need to be rotated and checked regularly, and electric vehicles are no exception. Roads are rough on tires, from trying to swerve between potholes, watching closely for debris in construction zones. Some electric vehicles have larger batteries, which adds extra weight to the car for the tires to support. Every 7,500 miles is the ideal time for routine tire rotations.

Windshield wipers. Windshield wiper blades life span do not change whether you have an electric vehicle or a gas powered vehicle. After a snowy and salty winter, rainy spring or at least every 15,000 miles, your windshield wiper blades should be replaced.

Bulbs. Just like gas powered vehicles, lights burn out in electric vehicles too. For your safety and the safety of others, it is always important to make sure all your head lights, tail lights, and brake lights are working properly. Always be sure to use extra caution if you decide to change a bulb by yourself, as you cannot touch the bulbs with your fingertips.

Brakes. Your vehicle’s brakes should be inspected regularly. In some electric vehicle systems it does take longer to wear out the brake pads of an electric vehicle, it is still important to have a mechanic check for wear and tear. According to Carfax.com, there are some EV’s who have traveled well over 100,000 miles before needing to replace the brakes.

Fluids. Electric vehicles need their windshield wiper fluid and brake fluid checked regularly, which can be topped off easily. An electric vehicle’s thermal management system also requires coolant to keep electrical parts from overheating. Check your owner’s manual to find out how often a coolant system flush is required for your vehicle. In addition, some electric vehicles also require powertrain fluid.

Other maintenance needs that are important to electric vehicles and should be checked regularly are sensors, computers issues, cabin air filters, and the most important part of the electric vehicle, the battery.
